40 Stories is a structural exploration of memory, privacy, and the compartmentalization of the human experience. Built upon a hand-sculpted texture on a deep wood panel, the work utilizes a grid-like framework to evoke the blueprint of an internal sanctuary.
The process began by carving out the physical "walls" of each room through a dense base layer. I then applied acrylic paint in varying opacities to establish the atmospheric light of each chamber—some clinical and bright, others weathered and dim. The final, intimate details were added using oil pastels, allowing for raw, waxy marks that interrupt the rigid grid. These vibrant accents represent the "clutter" of lived experience—a flash of yellow joy, a scribbled pink thought, or a dark green shelter. The result is a tactile, multi-layered map of a collective residence, where every square holds a different history.
