Chromatic Bloom
8X8 Encaustic on Wood
This encaustic on wood radiates heat and organic movement through layered wax and saturated pigment. Fields of vermilion, coral, and molten orange burst outward from darkened circular cores, creating forms that read as floral, solar, or cellular depending on distance.
Raised wax rings encase each center, their glossy surfaces catching light against the matte, brushed pigment beneath. The contrast between luminous color and dense black interiors creates a push and pull between bloom and void.
Built through successive layers of molten beeswax, the surface holds both translucency and relief. Fused edges, suspended pigment, and visible brushwork preserve the immediacy of the process.
Compact in scale but visually expansive, the work carries the energy of something unfolding mid-bloom.
