8X8 Encaustic on Wood
This encaustic on wood channels heat, motion, and collision through layered wax and saturated pigment. Fields of crimson, vermilion, and molten gold push against deep ultramarine and clouded whites, creating a charged, atmospheric tension.
Circular impressions drift along the left side like rising bubbles or orbiting forms, introducing rhythm within the otherwise turbulent surface. Scraped passages, fused drips, and veiled transfers build a sense of velocity, as if the composition is still in flux beneath the wax.
The encaustic process preserves each stage of making. Pigment blooms, edges soften, and textures suspend in translucent layers, allowing earlier gestures to remain visible. The result feels elemental. Heat meets tide, combustion meets erosion.
