Ritual is a visual record of transition and spiritual energy, built through a process of intuitive layering and mark-making. The work explores the concept of personal and collective ceremonies—the sacred and the mundane habits we repeat to create meaning and structure in a chaotic world.
The composition is balanced between grounded stability and transformative movement. Industrial graphite establishes the framework, including large, stenciled symbols that anchor the piece. Over this, a frantic, gestural energy takes hold. I used aggressive acrylic paint and paper collage scraps to create a vertical pathway of vibrant yellow and deep teal, suggesting an energetic field or a spiritual conduit. The swirling, waxy lines of mustard yellow and forest green further reinforce this kinetic, ceremonial energy. By utilizing the $1.5$-inch deep canvas, I have allowed the layers to spill over the sides, treating the entire object as a sacred relic that continues to radiate its energy beyond the boundaries of the frame.
